Bandcamp Friday July Roundup

(Clockwise: Russell ¿Qué?, Milky Possum, Fire Truck Records, Pultixima, Farmer Zoe,Penny Death)

Time flies when you're buying concert tickets and planning weekend long getaways with the homies for fun filled musical weekends. As we enjoy the freedom that good weather and outdoor venues brings, let's not forget to show some local love to the artists in our area who have recently done the amazing job of releasing new beautiful art into the world by rounding them up and spreading their Bandcamp links around for Bandcamp Friday. For anyone unaware, Bandcamp Friday is when the online record store and music community, Bandcamp, dedicates the earnings made on that day to waiving their fees. This results in more money going directly to the artists who deserve it!

Russell ¿Qué?

Since 2017,  Russell ¿Qué? has released his albums on May 23rd. He recruits his friends and family to help in the process but he does the bulk of the work playing all the instruments, recording, and mixing at his home studio The Rabbit Hole. This year he returns with a self-released 9-song rap EP titled V XIII. A sure to be favorite track is “Fmaj7 aka Dada”. The song is a conversation between him and his recently first born son about the day of his birth. The special track features singer and his partner, Carly Jane Scobell.

Milky Possum

A true gem of a find, Wilmington video game music composer Milky Possum has already scored two video games this year. Although the music may not be intended for regular human consumption, their music is undeniably catchy, fun, and infectious. Not sure if you’ll see them performing live but absolutely worth the follow and download

Fire Truck Records

Who doesn’t love a good split EP? Indie music label Fire Truck Records released Splitsville in June, a three way split EP featuring their artist Dante Robinson, Clear Deep Sea, and Jeff Croce. The dreamy artwork is done by Emily Croce and a limited run of cassettes are currently available for purchase exclusively through their Bandcamp.

Penny Death

Wilmington-based aggressive indie singer-songwriter Penny Death followed up a May single release with a self-released 5 song EP titled Mystery? Machismo? Não! Penny Death! (Or Cornered, Pt. I). The EP title naturally makes us curious and anticipate Pt. 2, but in the meantime we’ll be sure to enjoy the angsty guitar riffs and expressive and creative vocals.

Farmer Zoe

Zoe Scruggs aka Farmer Zoe is a Delaware-based multidisciplinary artist, musician painter, and (you guessed it) farmer. Their latest beat tape, This Feels Good, was released in May and made mostly of tracks they created during their residency at Pioneer Works in 2021. The music is inspired by hip-hop, R&B, and music for film. It's atmospheric, it makes you want to dance, it makes you want to wallow in your feelings.

Pultixima

Doug Cannon, a.k.a Pultixima, is a solo alternative artist from Wilmington, Delaware, who  specializes in genres of rock and folk with a tinge of electronic elements. His music focuses primarily on darker themes that are oftentimes intermixed with brighter accompaniments. On occasion, he releases left-field singles or small EP collections that jump completely out of his conventional sound palate. His latest round of releases is ambient prog rock to study or dream to.
