Album Review: HOUSE OF STRAYS by Sundiata

(HOUSE OF STRAYS album cover from Bandcamp.com)

We gave some love to Sundiata for their double single release back in April for the monthly Bandcamp Friday Roundup. We didn’t know at the time but that was a precursor for a full length album. They’ve been releasing their own version of rock electronic post-punk music independently and consistently since 2018 and continue the tradition on June 24 2022 with a nine song album titled HOUSE OF STRAYS.

This album is one to push play on and let it rip as each song seamlessly transitions from one to the next carrying you along the ride of emotional ups and downs all with a consistent rock undertone. You can hear the British influence with guitar riffs reminiscent of Bloc Party and Bombay Bicycle Club. Each song has its own unique texture with the creative use of synths and fun electronic noises. The range is clear when you listen to the bold use of acoustic instruments in combination with metal guitar harmonics in songs like TUSK and lo-fi bedroom fugazi guitar in DAWN.

Hailing from Wilmington, Delaware and getting their start in music at age 13, Sundiata is now 20 years old and excelling in their craft. Keeping in mind that this young music maker wrote, produced, recorded, and performed the album HOUSE OF STRAYS, it’s safe to say this is something extraordinary and completely unique to the area.

Stream HOUSE OF STRAYS by Sundiata wherever you listen to music.
