Although this band says they hail from North Carolina, any local music lover would be familiar with The Knotty G’s deep Delaware roots. You can’t deny it after taking a listen to their rockin’ second self-released album Set Sail released December of 2021.

The single track As I Set Sail is in their usual beloved Americana style, but plus! Two expert guitar players complementing each other with each strum and pic is their usual base. The plus is Daniel Combs’ upright piano, playfully dancing and bouncing along the guitar in each musical break and solo. You hear hints of psychedelic rock with songs like The Sun with Gill’s Janis Joplin-like vocal wails, a wall of strings performed by Robert Travers, and a guitar tone from Chuck that’s reminiscent of Jefferson Airplane. You know there’s some Delaware in there somewhere when you hear the rockabilly guitar chug and blues drum-shuffle piano in Here I Go Again.

The 10 track album was recorded at The Eagle Room, in Weaverville, North Carolina and produced by Matt Williams. All songs were written, arranged, and performed by the married couple Gill and Chuck Knott. Anyone who’s seen them during their non-stop touring is likely to have seen stand-up bass player Ryan Kijanka who also plays on the album. He even has a rare guest vocal moment in Soul Mechanic. They’re keeping it in the family, with Justin Knott keeping the heart beat on drums. The front and back cover photos were shot by Delaware Photographer Joe Del Tufo (Moonloop Photography) and the inner sleeve photos were taken by Kevin Fuller.
