J.C. & The MotherShip Are On The Road to Freedom in Debut Single, ‘SouthBound’

Frederica, Delaware-based rock band J.C. & The Mothership are only a few months into existence and off to an electrifying start as they hit the road in their single ‘SouthBound’. Their self-released blues rock bop debut single will have you ready to cut ties and head to safety at any cost.

‘I’m headed Southbound

On the railroad tracks

I've hit the road I’m not coming back

You raised your fist at me boy, for the last time

When you notice I’m gone hope it makes you cry’

Heavy but not hopeless, ‘SouthBound’ tells the tale of a domestic abuse survivor running away from her abuser, reflecting on the madness of the situation. The shaker and guitar start in, and Emma makes it clear this is the end and there is no redemption. She tears into her adversary highlighting his insanity and her willingness to go through great measures to protect herself. She threatens death at the end of the first verse and a wailing crying guitar solo comes in, pulling at the heart strings and playing up the desperation of the conversation.

‘You got a mean mean soul

there’s a hole where it should be

And don’t even think about following me

It’ll be the death of you and a victory’

Established in December 2022 by members of local rock-and-roll band Dutchman, Connor Johnson, Jake Dutcher and Franco Solorzano teamed up with singer songwriter Emma Warrington for a fresh new take on rock and blues music. During the first week of the band’s inception Emma and Connor wrote ‘SouthBound’, and the band hit the studio to record shortly after.
