12 Delaware Artists to Support this Bandcamp Friday

Clockwise from Left: Cypher Clique, Hollow Pledge, Moonflower, No SirE, Bad Smidgen, and Glow Softly

For those who are unfamiliar with Bandcamp, it’s an online record store and music community. Music fans can discover new artists and directly support them by purchasing their music and merchandise through their online shops. Like most online stores, Bandcamp takes a percentage of any money made through their website. During the pandemic they’ve dedicated the first Friday of every month to waiving their fees, resulting in more money going directly to the artists who deserve it. To celebrate, we’re giving you a round up of Delaware musicians to check out and encourage you to buy something!

Cypher Clique

This trio has been consistently putting out great material for years and are always up to something new. They recently released a new single “The Factory” about keeping up with the daily grind of being the best rappers in the city. If you’re from the New Castle area, you’ll love the album art, complete with the group members maxin’ and relaxin’ behind the historic venue The Queen.

Moonflower

Grunge/Alternative/Emo from central Delaware, this band “slaps”. Front person Andrew Weidert, is a rocket of angsty energy on stage. The lyrics are as gut wrenching and relatable as the melodies are powerful and catchy. They have some great merch for sale as well!

No Sir E

NO SIR E is the Delaware-based producer, performing artist, monome magician, and forward-thinking future beat electronic musician making waves from east to west coast with his ambitious approach to music production. A self-proclaimed “sound scavenger” and “loop technician”, his live performances are a full-course buffet into a range of emotion and rhythm. Using a monome 256 and other futuristic gadgetry he transforms into a mad scientist performing beat-based alchemy.

Glows Softly

Their most recent release is a nine song album titled “Dedicated”. This Delaware singer picked the perfect name, with each song being sung in a tender and angelic voice on top of acoustic guitar and electronic sounds. Self-described as “a homemade, diary-type album...that’s lived-in & flawed”, Glows Softly strikes all the right chords.

Hollow Pledge

Philly/Delaware band that plays sweet Punk/Alternative Rock with heaviness that caters to that head banging at shows. They combine sweet melodies and hard rock riffs. Their latest release “Intervention” is a collection of personal experiences, and a reflection of those rough patches life tends to throw at us. With content from exploring relationships to one's journey toward fatherhood there is bound to be something on the EP you can connect with.

Blues Reincarnation Project

This blues-rock, British blues, and new age blues influenced band consists of an up and coming guitarist from the Newark, Delaware area, Jeffrey Attakorah, and a former member of Newark, Delaware-based punk band, 'The Checkered Heroes’, Charlie Greaves, on drums. They were recently joined (in 2018) by Dylan Walker, a new up and coming bassist from the New Castle, Delaware scene.

MEGA

MEGA is an epic Prog rock quintet from Wilmington, DE. Boasting triple harmonized guitars, three and four part vocal harmony, fearless improvisation, and relatable songwriting, MEGA walks a tightrope between 70s Prog and modernity.

Bad Smidgen

A Wilmington band under the Delaware label Circa 68 Records, Bad Smidgen is good ‘ol punk rock at its finest. There’s nothing like an angsty front singing over edgy gainey chords to really make you want to stick it to the man. Check out this band's page to see where they’re playing next.

Zack Is Nuclear

Zack is the self described “white boy with da funky music” and he’s not lying. With a tasteful mix of lowfi, hip-hop, and gritty sounds, he dives deep into his mind to give you his innermost thoughts. His music makes him sound like the kind of friends you could stay up late with and talk about your deepest fears.

Think Machine

They are self described as “punks that like to dance” and they aren’t lying. Signed to Delaware record label Impetus Records, they’ve been putting out music since 2018 and seem to be a crowd favorite at Oddity Bar and Philly basement shows. Check out all their cool merch while you’re on their page.

Ghetto Songbird

This Culture Rock singer/songwriter/guitarist has been active since 2001. She has played iconic venues such as CBGB’s (NYC), The Bitter End (NYC), The Whisky A Go-Go (L.A.), The Troubadour (London), and The Overthrust Winter Mania Metal Fest in (Botswana). She shared the stage with some of her heroes including HR (Bad Brains, Angelo (Fishbone), Vernon Reid (Living Colour) and many more.

The Collingwood

Formed in 1999 by guitarist/filmmaker Christopher Malinowski, The Collingwood mesh cinema-driven, minor-key melodies with elements of post-rock and 1970’s-soul, creating shadowy dance numbers, both contemplative and severe. The Collingwood is renowned for its impetuous live performances, with equal parts drama and ass-shaking.
