Bandcamp Friday Roundup; May 2023

It’s May and there’s a fresh crop of new local music to listen to for this Bandcamp Friday Roundup. For anyone unaware, Bandcamp Friday is when the online record store and music community, Bandcamp, dedicates the earnings made on that day to waiving their fees. This results in more money going directly to the artists who deserve it. Stop by and spread a little local love and support if you enjoy it.

If you’re a local musician and have new music coming out, send it to us to be included here!

mosaictheanimated

Ambient futuristic producer mosaictheanimated is back on the list with another dense and flavorful beat tape. Released April 7, FREE SAMPLES vol.2 has 20 songs filled with loops, samples and groovy beats.

pillow princess

Psychedelic Philadelphia based pillow princess released their first single of the year “Lie” late March. With its poetic writing, jazzy piano, and powerful guitar playing the band could easily be described as a modern rock band like The Doors.

Mitch Wessell

A usual hired gun, Middletown based guitar player Mitch Wessell is taking the lead in his latest release Endless Endeavor. Combining elements of rock, punk, and always with incredible guitar riffs, this six song EP will have anyone head banging along to songs like ‘Feel The Earth’ and “I Love My Dog”.

Sneak Thief

Clayton-based indie folk band Sneak Thief recently made their Bandcamp debut with Thanatophobia. Written, recorded, and performed by Joshua Murphy, each song is delicate, vulnerable, and sweet with acoustic guitars, soft vocals, and enchanting electric piano.

Puercomusic

Newark-based one-man-band Puerocomusic is self-described as a starving, neurodivergent, homebody. Their recent release Wait For It accurately and humorously reflects that as their  eleven-song album weaves through every random thought a person could think in a day, with songs like ‘A Bunch Of Random Things’ and ‘The Funeral Clown’.

steezanne

Metal jazz-fusion Newark-based band steezanne are jumping onto the radar with their polished professional playful new music. Their nine-song collection of music titled Zesty, released earlier this month, is dripping with technical hard rock guitar riffs and delivered in a tasty colorful combo of drums, keyboard, and guitar.
